About Zockify.com
Welcome to Zockify! In this document, you can learn more about who we are and what we do.
Who Is Behind This Page?
Hi, I’m Dennis. 👋
I have been contributing to gaming-related projects since 2008. I’m a software developer by trade and love to create webpages, tools, and guides for games. My wife is a technical writer by trade and loves to write about games too. She wrote gaming news and did PR work from 2010 to 2015.
With a small team of 4 dedicated gamers, we were creating fan pages and gaming communities from 2012 to roughly 2016. After 2016, we didn’t launch new projects but continued to update pages that were still in demand. We created content for mostly MMORPGs like The Secret World, Guild Wars 2, ESO, BDO, and a few other games like Fallout 76 and Hearthstone. Nearly all of our pages were in German. Most of them were the most popular German fan pages for their respective games.
Editorial Guidelines
We think Zockify is very unique in today’s media landscape. Gaming media has changed a lot in recent years. Here are the 4 biggest points that set us apart from this change:
- On Zockify, we play all the games ourselves. If we write guides for a game, it’s based on our experience and direct input from our community.
- On Zockify, headlines and articles are straight to the point so that you don’t waste any time. We try to cut the fluff as much as possible without losing context.
- On Zockify, you can easily give feedback to every document. Feedback is sent directly to our team Discord, so we can react as fast as possible. Fixing typos and correcting or clarifying information is a very high priority to us.
- On Zockify, we are pushing hard to publish the guides before you need them when a game, season, or phase is released. During releases, we often work 7 days a week to achieve these goals.
We aim to provide the best guides and tools possible. Please help us with your feedback, whenever you see something we could improve.
The History of Zockify
Together with my wife and a dear friend, we founded the German version “Zockify.de” in 2018. It was meant to be a platform with news, guides, and tools for a few selected games. Sadly, the project became stale in 2019. We had a few games we wanted to cover. But some games were really disappointing on launch (e.g. Anthem) and for other games, the demand for guides and tools just wasn’t at a point where we had hoped it would be.
With the western release of Lost Ark in 2022 we relaunched Zockify.de as a German Lost Ark fan page. Our page was a huge success and after doing a lot of content in German for the first few months, we started Zockify.com as an English Lost Ark fan page in April/May 2022.
WoW Classic
With the announcement of WoW Classic Season of Discovery, everything shifted at the end of 2023. I love WoW Classic and have been playing Vanilla, Classic, and now SoD. Since then we are focused on WoW SoD. We’re providing tools like a Talent Calculator, builds, guides for runes, and all the things you might need. We will improve and extend all of our content through the phases.
Is Zockify a Wiki?
Zockify is building a knowledge base and online encyclopedia for a few selected games. We also edit and extend articles as a team, meaning most documents aren’t created by one person alone. We incorporate community contributions and we’re going deep and trying to explain as many things as we can, much like a Wiki.
Technically Zockify does not run on traditional Wiki software. It is not possible to sign up and edit or create new articles.
So, is Zockify a Wiki? We like to think so. We have the restriction that users can’t sign up and start editing, but other than that, our goals and processes align with those of a traditional Wiki.
What Does “Zockify” Mean?
“Zocken” is German for “playing games”. The term “Zockify” is a combination of “zocken” and the popular ending “ify”. Since we started with the German version of Zockify first, it sounded like a great idea. But we can see how that humor could be lost outside of Germany. 🙂
