WoW Classic PvP Class Sets

Each class in WoW Classic has only one rare and one epic PvP set available. These sets are often tailored to one specific specialization and less valuable for other specs of that class. Since there is no specific PvP stat, like resilience in TBC, not every class and every spec benefits from their PvP class sets. Some specs prefer their PvE raid tier sets if they can get their hands on it.

Even for PvE some classes and specs have their ranking gear in their BiS lists. Check the WoW Classic builds for your class to see if you want to rank for PvE gear too.

Please note: Whether or not the PvP sets are worth it to you depends highly on your situation. The following lists will give you a good start if ranking in WoW Classic is worth it for your spec. But there are many factors that will influence that decision. Big influencers are things like whether you are in a static raid group, have a high raid attendance, whether you have a high or low loot competition in this raid, and how many off-pieces you can get from raiding. Also note the scarcity of loot in raids. Getting a full PvE set will take a long time and might not happen at all for many classes during one phase, while upgrades from PvP are highly predictable with the Honor Calculator above.

Who Wants their Rank 10 Class Sets for PvP?

Every class unlocks their full rare PvP sets with rank 10. In the following list, you can see what specs benefit from their PvP set.

  1. Rank 10 Gear is better than the Molten Core set for:
Warrior Warrior, Mage Mage, Priest Priest (Shadow), Druid Druid (Feral), Paladin Paladin (Retribution)
  2. Mix 2-3 pieces of your rank 10 gear with the available raid gear:
Warlock Warlock, Paladin Paladin (Holy), Shaman Shaman (Elemental)
  3. Don’t bother with PvP sets if you’re raiding:
Hunter Hunter, Priest Priest (Discipline), Shaman Shaman (Restoration), Rogue Rogue
  4. Personal Preference:
Druid Druid (Balance) 1, Druid Druid (Resto) 1

1 The set bonus of the Druid Druid set gives movement speed. This set bonus is incredibly powerful but the itemization is not ideal for the listed specs. Depending on your situation and preferences, this could be the most important set for you or you could not want to wear a single piece of it.

If your class is in the “don’t bother” tier, it means the itemization of the PvP set is not good for your spec. You can still wear it if you lack stamina, but getting the tier set will be better. This is only applicable if you don’t plan on raiding.

Who Wants their Rank 13 Class Sets for PvP?

Every class unlocks their epic PvP sets with rank 13. In the following list, you can see what specs benefit from their PvP set.

  1. Rank 13 gear is better than the Blackwing Lair set for:
Warrior Warrior, Priest Priest (Shadow), Druid Druid (Feral), Paladin Paladin (Retribution), Shaman Shaman (Elemental)
  2. Mix 2-3 pieces of your rank 13 gear with the Blackwing Lair gear:
Hunter Hunter 1, Mage Mage, Warlock Warlock
  3. Don’t bother with PvP sets if you’re raiding:
Paladin Paladin (Holy), Priest Priest (Discipline), Shaman Shaman (Restoration), Rogue Rogue
  4. Personal Preference:
Druid Druid (Balance) 2, Druid Druid (Resto) 2

1 Try to get to rank 12 for the gloves. The gloves are BiS for PvP and PvE.
2 The set bonus of the Druid Druid set gives movement speed. This set bonus is incredibly powerful but the itemization is not ideal for the listed specs. Depending on your situation and preferences, this could be the most important set for you or you could not want to wear a single piece of it.

Who Wants their Rank 14 Weapons?

With PvP Rank 14 you’ll unlock the weapons.

WoW Classic Ranking System 2.0

The PvP ranking system was changed significantly in 2023 in Patch 1.14.4. The new system removed the decay of ranking points and a character now needs to hit a fixed amount of Honor Points each week. The old system was dynamic and the required Honor Points per week changed on the amount of Honor other players in your faction collected. This turned the old ranking system into an insane grind where all PvP players of the faction had to come together and coordinate their efforts.

Due to the fixed milestones in the new ranking system, our Honor Calculator above can calculate how many Honor Points a character needs to farm each week. The new ranking system is active on the Classic Anniversary Realms, Season of Discovery, and WoW Classic Era.

You can use the free WoW addon “Ranker” to display the optimal path and your current ranking options directly in the character sheet in WoW Classic. Ranker can be downloaded with your favorite Addon manager (e.g. Curse, WoWUp, or similar).

WoW SoD Honor Calculator

The honor calculation and ranking system for Season of Discovery is the same as in WoW Classic Anniversary and WoW Classic Era. You can use the calculator on this page if you’re playing WoW SoD.
