Engineering Specializations in WoW Classic
Once you reach skill level 200 in Engineering and your character reaches level 30, you can optionally choose a specialization. The following two specializations are available:
- Goblin Engineering
- Gnomish Engineering
Your chosen specialization allows you to craft unique items that are not available to players with the other specialization. No matter which specialization you choose, it does not influence this leveling guide, as no specialization-specific recipes are used here.
Important to note: In WoW Classic you cannot simply change your specialization later. To do this, you would have to completely unlearn Engineering and relearn the profession from scratch.
To unlock one of the Engineering specializations, follow these steps:
How to Unlock Gnomish Engineering
- Pick up the quest
Gnome Engineering |
Gnome Engineering from one of the following Engineering trainers:
Lilliam Sparkspindle in the Dwarven District in Stormwind (55.0 8.6)
Springspindle Fizzlegear in Tinker Town in Ironforge (68.6 44.2)
Graham Van Talen in the Rogue’s Quarter in Undercity (75.6 73.6)

What is the Best Engineering Specialization?
Both Engineering specializations in WoW Classic provide their benefits.
- Gnome Engineering provides two gadgets that are bind-on-pickup (BoP). These gadgets are
Gnomish Death Ray and
Gnomish Battle Chicken. BoP means you can not buy these two items from other players. If you want these items, you have to learn Gnomish Engineering and craft them yourself.
- Goblin Engineering allows you to craft
Goblin Sapper Charge yourself. This can be a good gold maker or at least save you gold, in case you’re using
Goblin Sapper Charge regularly.
To maximize your character it is often recommended to level Gnomish Engineering first. Craft the 2 BoP items and then unlearn Engineering. Start to level Engineering fresh from level 1 and then go for Goblin Engineering. You will be able to use all the Gnomish devices you’ve crafted earlier. Additionally, you can craft Goblin recipes like Goblin Sapper Charge yourself.
Stay with your Gnomish Engineering specialization, if you don’t need to be able to craft Goblin Sapper Charge on this character. This might be the case if you don’t use
Goblin Sapper Charge or you have a second character who can craft them already.
WoW Classic Engineering Trainers
You can learn Apprentice and Journeyman Engineering in WoW Classic from Engineering trainers. You’ll find these trainers in the capital cities. Once your character has reached at least level 5, you can go to one of the following Engineering trainers to learn the profession:
Horde Engineering Trainers
- Thund in the Valley of Honor in Orgrimmar (75.8 24.6)
- Graham Van Talen in the Rogues’ Quarter in Undercity (75.6 73.6)
- Mukdrak in Razor Hill in Durotar (52.2 40.8)
Alliance Engineering Trainers
- Sprite Jumpsprocket in the Dwarven District in Stormwind (54.8 8.8)
- Jemma Quikswitch in Tinker Town in Ironforge (67.8 43.8)
- Jenna Lemkenilli in Auberdine in Darkshore (38.2 41.0)
To learn Engineering from 150 to 225 you need to talk to an Artisan Engineer. Depending on your faction, these are the available trainers:
Springspindle Fizzlegear at Tinker Town in Ironforge (68.6 44.2).
Roxxik in The Valley of Honor in Orgrimmar (76.0 25.0).
To learn Engineering from 225 to 300 you need to talk to the following Master Engineer:
