Crew & Resistances
Each member of your ship’s crew gives speed as well as pluses and minuses for your ship’s resistances. High speed and balanced resistances are important.
Generally, a particular value is placed on resistances for Tempest Seas and Dead Seas. These two are particularly harsh and will cost your ship a lot of Durability.
Sandstorm Seas and Cold Snap Seas also damage your ship. Resistances are not unimportant here either, but you will have to travel to these areas less often.
Kelp Beds and Siren Seas don’t reduce Durability and just slow you down. If you do a lot of AFK sailing (or tidying up inventory or looking through collectibles while you’re at it), it’s hardly noticeable, so it’s less of a problem.
The Best Estoque Crew
With members of your crew, you have to make sure that they can sail on your ship. Not all sailors can hire on the Estoque.

Which of the four variants you choose is a matter of taste, but variant 3 seems to be the preferred one for many players.
Why variant 3? Ideally, you can achieve 65 points in the resistances that are most important to you (Tempest Seas and Dead Seas are primarily recommended). Ship skins give you 12 freely distributable points. Collected sea bounties, as well as ship upgrades, also increase your resistances. While variants 1 and 4 are the fastest, they don’t reach the 65 threshold for the two most important resistances.
Variant 3, therefore, offers a very good compromise.
