Runes are items that you can find in the world in the Season of Discovery of WoW Classic. Runes can be assigned to equipment slots and give your character powerful passive effects. This WoW SoD Paladin Runes guide explains which Paladin runes are available in SoD, and how you can get them. Included are detailed descriptions of the Paladin rune locations.

How to Get All Paladin Runes in SoD
The following runes are available for the Paladin in SoD. Click on a rune to go directly to the location description.
Update: Since December 2024, all SoD runes and skill books can be purchased from Rune Brokers at level 1. The runes no longer have to be found or unlocked by completing quests (although this is still possible). You’ll find Rune Brokers e.g. at the following locations:
- Rune Broker at 28.6 39.0 in Darnassus.
- Rune Broker at 53.8 13.6 in Ironforge.
- Rune Broker at 57.6 26.8 in Stormwind.

How to Get Crusader Strike in SoD
You get the Crusader Strike rune (Hands) at level 2 in your starting zone in the Season of Discovery as follows:
Human:
- Obtain the quest
Relics of the Light from Brother Sammuel in Elwynn Forest (50 42).
- Find and equip
Libram of Judgement.
Libram of Judgement drops from Defias nearby.
- Unleash 10 seals onto your enemies with
Judgement.
- Use
Libram of Judgement and you will get

How to Get Aegis in SoD
You get the Aegis rune (Chest) in the starting zones in the Season of Discovery as follows:
- To get
Aegis, you need to be level 8 and have
Purify trained.
- Elwynn Forest: Cast
Purify on Wounded Adventurer at the end of the spider section in the Jasperlode Mines.
- Dun Morogh: Cast
Purify on Wounded Adventurer in front of Gnomeregan (26 44).
How to Get Inspiration Exemplar in SoD
You get the Inspiration Exemplar rune (Legs) in the starting zones in the Season of Discovery as follows:
- A second healing class player is required to get
Inspiration Exemplar.
- Elwynn Forest:
- East of the hill that lies east of Jerod’s Landing, find Adventurer's Remains at 52.2 84.6. Right-click on it to summon a portal.
- A second healing class needs to click on the portal, causing a friendly ghost to spawn and die. Everyone in the group can loot it and get
Rune of Inspiration.
- Dun Morogh:
- West of Kharanos find Adventurer's Remains inside the Wendigo cave at 43.0 49.6. Right-click on it to summon a portal.

How to Get Rebuke in SoD
You get the Rebuke rune (Legs) in Stormwind City and Ironforge in the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Stormwind City:
- Speak to Liv Bradford at the Inn in the Park (23 64).
- Then kill Stuart, who is also in the Inn.
- Return to Liv Bradford to receive
Rebuke from her.
- Ironforge:
- Speak to Bruuk Barleybeard at the Inn in the Military Ward (72 75). He asks you to talk to a drunk nearby.
- After talking to the drunk you can defeat him.
- Return to Bruuk Barleybeard to obtain
Rebuke from him.
How to Get Hallowed Ground in SoD
You get the Hallowed Ground rune (Chest) in the level 10+ quest zones in the Season of Discovery as follows:

Libram of Blessings on a table downstairs in the Stoutlager Inn in Thelsamar (35.8 49.5).

- Give blessings to 5 different players.

You get the Hand of Reckoning rune (Hands) in the level 10+ quest zones in the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Loch Modan:
- Go to Stonesplinter Valley.
- In the cave, you can find a chest called Sunken Reliquar (37 92). It contains

How to Get Divine Light in SoD
You get the Divine Light rune (Chest) in Duskwood in the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Speak to Brother Romulus in the cathedral in Stormwind City (37 29).
- Then use the stairwells closest to Brother Romulus (on the left when facing him) to go down into the catacombs of the cathedral.
- Follow the stairs down until you reach a large room. There you will find
Charred Note on the left side.
- Go to the small island that is located in the far northwest of Duskwood (4 28).
- Speak to Ada Gelhardt and defeat her to receive
Seal of Martyrdom.
Note: Divine Light replaces the Seal of Martyrdom rune in SoD Phase 4. Seal of Martyrdom is now learned as a baseline ability from a skill book.
How to Get Divine Storm in SoD
You get the Divine Storm rune (Chest) in Ashenvale in the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Go to the Tower of Althalaxx in the north of Darkshore and get an orb at the top. You will meet level 30+ mobs there.Two paladins are all you need to get to the orb. Follow these steps:
- One paladin runs in making a beeline for the top pulling aggro. The other follows a second or two later. You should both be able to get near enough to the top before you die so you can revive next to the orb, but even if you don’t just revive and continue up until you can.
- Climb to the top of the tower as ghosts, ensuring both of you can revive on the top floor by the orb. One paladin waits by the orb while the other revives, pots, pulls aggro, hits Divine Protection, and jumps over the rail, climbing down as far as they can and leading the mobs away.
- When partner pulls aggro, revive and immediately claim orb. Stay where you are and die if your partner also needs the orb and just reverse roles.
- Click on the orb at the top of the tower to get
Althalaxx Orb.
- Go to Maestra’s Post in Ashenvale and talk to Delgren the Purifier (26 39). The quest
Advice From Stormwind starts.
- Go to Stormwind City and talk to Katherine the Pure (38 32). You will receive the follow-up quest
A Second Opinion.
- Speak to Ursula Deline in Stormwind City (26 77). You will receive the follow-up quest
Earning Your Salt.
- Go to Redridge Mountains and kill Blackrock mobs until you get 14x
Summoner's Salt.
- Return to Stormwind City and turn in the quest. You will receive the follow-up quest
It Must Be Destroyed.
- Go to Demon Fall Canyon in Ashenvale. Kill Searing Infernal, Felguard, and Mannoroc Lasher until you get 12x
Mote of Mannoroth.
- Go to (89 77) in Ashenvale and click on the circle under Mannoroth’s weapons. A broken orb drops.
- Interact with the orb to start the final quest
Return to Delgren.
- Complete the quest and you will receive
Divine Storm.
How to Get Avenger’s Shield in SoD
You get the Avenger's Shield rune (Legs) by killing a level 23 Elite mob in the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Kill the level 23 Elite mob Dro'zem the Blasphemous. He can spawn at several locations in Redridge Mountains, e.g. at the orc camp around (77 70).
How to Get Aura Mastery in SoD
You get the Aura Mastery rune (Legs) with level 24 in Duskwood in the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Prerequisite: You need to have
Exorcism and
Turn Undead trained.
- Kill Defias Night Blade, Defias Night Runner, and Defias Enchanter in Duskwook until you get
Libram of Banishment. The mobs can be found at Yorgen Farmstead around (50 78) and south of Raven Hill around (22 71)
- Equip
Libram of Banishment.
- Cast
Turn Undead on 5 enemies, and slay them with
Exorcism.
- Use
Libram of Banishment and you will get
Exorcist.
Note: Aura Mastery replaces the Exorcist rune in SoD Phase 4. Exorcist is now learned as a baseline ability from a skill book.
How to Get Hand of Sacrifice in SoD
You get the Hand of Sacrifice rune (Legs) by buying it in Ratchet in the Season of Discovery as follows:
Update: Since the hotfix on April 16, 2024, you can buy Rune of Sacrifice directly from Grizzby in Ratchet for 3g. It is no longer necessary to deliver the items listed below.
The following steps are no longer necessary to get the rune:
- Go to Ratchet in the Barrens and talk to Grizzby in the Inn (62 39). For his quests, you have to collect the following materials:
- 24x
Fish Oil:
- Drops from Murlocs and Naga e.g. in Hillsbrad Foothills.
- 20x
Dark Iron Ordinance:
- Drops from Level 27 – 31 Elite Dark Iron Dwarves in Wetlands.
- 16x
Shredder Turbocharger:
- To get
Shredder Turbocharger, use
Shredder Autosalvage Unit on Venture Co. Light Shredder in Stonetalon Mountains around Windshear Crag (not a guaranteed drop).
Shredder Autosalvage Unit is crafted by Engineering. The recipe is a drop from Sneed in Deadmines.

Let Me Make You An Offer from Grizzby.
- Hand in the quest to Master Wood in Old Town in Stormwind City (79.2 47.6).
- Accept the quest
You've Got Yourself A Deal from Master Wood which leads you back to Grizzby in Ratchet.
- Hand in the quest to Grizzby. He will now sell you
Rune of Sacrifice for 3 gold.
If you can’t see the quest, your character level is too low. the quest should be available at level 20.
Note: Hand of Sacrifice replaces the Divine Sacrifice rune in SoD Phase 4. Up until phase 3, Divine Sacrifice was available in the way described above. In P4, it will be removed.
How to Get Beacon of Light in SoD
You get the Beacon of Light rune (Hands) by turning in Supply Shipments for reputation in the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Can be purchased from the Azeroth Commerce Authority faction once Friendly has been achieved.
How to Get Malleable Protection in SoD
You get the Malleable Protection rune (Waist) in Arathi Highlands in the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Kill Syndicate mobs, Witherbark trolls, Dark Iron dwarves, Boulderfist ogres, Hammerfall mobs, Drywhisker kobolds, and Daggerspine mobs in Arathi Highlands to get the following three beads:
Tarnished Prayer Bead I
Tarnished Prayer Bead II
Tarnished Prayer Bead III
- Purify the three beads as follows:
Tarnished Prayer Bead I: Cast
Blessing of Might and kill an enemy. It turns into
Divine Prayer Bead I.
Tarnished Prayer Bead II: Cast
Divine Shield when having less than 10% HP. It turns into
Divine Prayer Bead II.
Tarnished Prayer Bead III: Cast
Seal of Justice with
Judgement on a fleeing mob. It turns into
Divine Prayer Bead III.
- Combine the three Divine Prayer Beads to make
Rosary of the Light.
- Bring
Rosary of the Light to Brother Atticus in Stromgarde Keep (27.2 57.0) and you’ll get the rune.
Note: Malleable Protection replaces the Enlightened Judgements rune in SoD Phase 4. Up until phase 3, Enlightened Judgements was available in the way described above. In P4, it will be removed.
How to Get Guarded by the Light in SoD
You get the Guarded by the Light rune (Feet) in Alterac Mountains in the Season of Discovery as follows:
Prerequisite: You need to have Divine Intervention trained (requires level 30).
- Find the Frozen Remains in the Ruins of Alterac in Alterac Mountains at 39.7 60.8.
- Loot
Dormant Holy Rune from Frozen Remains.
- Cast
Divine Intervention on another player who is capable of resurrecting you. You can head back to a mayor city for this step.
- Have them resurrect you. You’ll get
Rune of the Guardian from which you can learn the rune.
How to Get Sacred Shield in SoD
You get the Sacred Shield rune (Feet) in Desolace the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Go to Nijel’s Point in the north of Desolace (66.5 7.6).
- Enter the Inn and go on to the second level.
- Find the brown book that lies on a bench. Loot
Libram of Deliverance from it.
- Equip
Libram of Deliverance.
- Use 5x
Blessing of Freedom to free others from movement-impairing effects.
- Use
Libram of Deliverance to learn the rune.
How to Get The Art of War in SoD
You get the The Art of War rune (Feet) at level 30 in the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Find the Extinguished Campfire at the Kodo Graveyard in Desolace at 47.5 54.6. You’ll get the quest
Highway Robbery (requires level 30).
- Go to Bibbly F'utzbuckle northeast of the Kodo Graveyard at 62.2 38.8 and turn in the quest. You’ll get the quest
On the Lam.
- Go to Booty Bay in Stranglethorn Vale. Turn in the quest at Tokal in the Booty Bay Inn (27.0 77.2). You’ll get the quest
Cherry for Your Thoughts?.
- Buy
Cherry Grog from Nixxrax Fillamug.
- Turn in the quest at Tokal. You’ll get the quest
No Honor Among Thieves.
- Use the rowboat found at 53 91 on the Arathi Highlands map. It will teleport you to the eastern shore.
- Talk to Illari Duskfeather at the docks (93.8 71.4 on the Arathi Highlands map).
- Fight Illari Duskfeather and loot her bag to get
Illari's Key.
Tip: If someone has just fought her, you can loot the key from her bag as well. Then wait for her to respawn, talk to her and you can continue to the next - Open the chest near Illari Duskfeather at the docks to turn in the quest. You’ll get
Jewel-Encrusted Box which contains
Rune of Warfare.
Note: This questline only needs to be completed once per account starting in SoD Phase 5. You can then buy item Emblem of Dishonor from Pix Xizzix at 28.4 75.8 in Booty Bay and mail it to an alt char. The emblem can be redeemed at a Rune Broker in any of the major cities to unlock the corresponding rune of the class.
How to Get Infusion of Light in SoD
You get the Infusion of Light rune (Waist) in the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Talk to Dalaran Agent in Ariden’s Camp in eastern Deadwind Pass (52.0 34.6). You’ll get
Ariden's Sigil.
- Equip
Ariden's Sigil (or be with a player who has equipped it).
- Kill all 7 Dark Rider found around the following locations and obtain their relics. You will get the
Dark Presence buff when you’re in the right spot. Then use
Ariden's Sigil to reveal the Dark Rider.
- Deadwind Pass ~ 44 29 (drops

- Duskwood ~ 23 46 (drops

How to Get Sheath of Light in SoD
You get the Sheath of Light rune (Waist) in the Season of Discovery as follows:
Prerequisite: Level 26 & you need the Divine Storm rune to be able to see the hammer in Step 1. Thanks for the feedback!
- Find
Broken Hammer in Mannoroc Cove in Desolace (52.6 84.8]. It starts the quest
The Broken Hammer.
- Kill nearby Burning Blade Summoner until you get
Torn Letter.
- Turn in the quest at Katherine the Pure in the cathedral in Stormwind (37.8 31.6). You’ll get the follow-up quest
A Lost Brother (requires level 26).
- Talk to Katherine the Pure, then turn in
A Lost Brother.
- Talk to Harold Riggs at Menethil Harbor in Wetlands (8.2 58.6).
- Go to Newman’s Landing at 11.3 75.5 on the Dun Morogh map. To reach it, start at Wetlands and swim along the coast of Dun Morogh until you get to the docks. For a shorter swim, you can start in Westfall.
- Inside the building, find Slain Scarlet Crusader and click it. The level 40 elite mob Scarlet Crusade Assassin spawns.
- Kill Scarlet Crusade Assassin and pick up
Orders from the Grand Crusader. It will start the quest
Orders from the Grand Crusader.
- Return to Katherine the Pure in Stormwind and turn in the quest. You’ll get the quest
A Brother In Need.
- Kill High Inquisitor Whitemane in Scarlet Monastery: Cathedral (or group with someone who has already cleared the Cathedral). In her room, you’ll find Aeonas the Vindicated.
- Turn in
A Brother In Need at Aeonas the Vindicated and accept
By The Light's Grace.
- Heal Aeonas the Vindicated, and accept the follow-up quest
Aeonas the Vindicated.
- Find Aeonas the Vindicated in the Stormwind Cathedral at 37.6 31.6 next to Katherine the Pure. Turn in the quest and you’ll get the rune.
How to Get Improved Hammer of Wrath in SoD
You get the Improved Hammer of Wrath rune (Wrists) in the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Buy
Rune of the Hammer for 1g 60s from one of the following Emerald Wardens Quartermasters:
- Quartermaster Alandra south of Seradane in The Hinterlands (61.2 34.6).
- Quartermaster Falinar at The Twilight Grove in Duskwood (45.6 51.2).
- Quartermaster Kyleen northeast of Satyrnaar in Ashenvale (89.6 40.6).
- Quartermaster Valdane north of The Twin Colossals in Feralas (48.1 12.7).
Note: Until Phase 4, it was necessary to reach Friendly with the Emerald Wardens faction to buy the rune. In P4, this requirement was removed.
How to Get Light’s Grace in SoD
You get the Light's Grace rune (Wrists) in Feralas in the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Use one of the following two teleporters to get to the pillar with Wirdal Wondergear on it in Feralas:
- Teleporter at the foot of the pillar at 85.3 43.6 in Feralas.
- Teleporter in Booty Bay (27.6 77.4) (only available if you completed the quest
Quadrangulation that is part of the P2 epic crafting quest chain).
- Set Gadgetzan “at war” in the reputation window.
- Reach the other pillar with the burning flying machine wreckage on it (~81 42) by following these steps:
- Stand behind the lighthouse on the edge of the pillar so that you can see the other pillar that you are aiming for.
- Turn around so that your back is facing the edge.
- Attack the Tower Defense Automaton which is approaching you. It will knock you back and you will land on the other pillar.
- Heal Frix Xizzix who is lying near the burning machine.
- Talk to Frix Xizzix and go through all the dialogue options.
- Go to Rix Xizzix in Booty Bay (28.4 75.8) and buy
Rune of Grace for 1g.
How to Get Wrath in SoD
You get the Wrath rune (Head) in the Hinterlands in the Season of Discovery as follows:
Note: Vengeful Spirit only spawns between 9 pm and 6 am server time.
- Go to the Quel’Danil Lodge in The Hinterlands around 31 44.
- Turn on
Sense Undead to find Vengeful Spirit. It has several spawn locations around the lodge and only spawns between 9 pm and 6 am server time.
- Kill Vengeful Spirit and loot
Rune of Wrath.
Note: It is not required to talk to Magister Falath in Ironforge first or after to get the rune. You can optionally do so to get some additional lore.
How to Get Fanaticism in SoD
You get the Fanaticism rune (Head) at level 44 in the Season of Discovery as follows:
Prerequisite: Level 44 & Sheath of Light rune quest chain completed.
- Talk to Aeonas the Vindicated in the Stormwind Cathedral at 37.6 31.6 and accept the quest
Some Good News (requires level 44).
- Talk to Katherine the Pure in the Stormwind cathedral at 37.8 31.6 and turn in the quest. You’ll get the follow-up quest
The Mysterious Merchant.
- Find the mysterious merchant Elrick inside the Theramore Inn (66.6 45.2) and turn in the quest. You’ll get the follow-up quest
Elrick, Paladin of the Silver Hand.
- Talk to Elrick, exhaust all the dialogue options, and defeat him and Stern-faced Bar Patron.
- Loot
Bloody Missive that starts the quest
The Bloody Missive.
Note: If you play in a party, only one player can loot the item. Everyone else can get a copy from the Innkeeper. - Return to Katherine the Pure, turn in the quest, and you’ll get the rune.
How to Get Hammer of the Righteous in SoD
You get the Hammer of the Righteous rune (Wrists) at level 44 in the Season of Discovery as follows:
Prerequisite: Level 44 & Fanaticism rune quest chain completed.
Note: Hammer of the Righteous only works with one-hand weapons.
- Go to 43.2 57.2 in Felwood and click on the interactable rope to find Aeonas the Vindicated at 45.0 52.0.
- Talk to Aeonas the Vindicated and exhaust his dialogue.
- Talk to Gregory (44.6 52.0) and exhaust his dialogue. You’ll get the quest
Materials of Significance (requires level 44).
- Collect the following items:
- 3x
Fiery Infernal Core: Drops from Entropic Beast and Infernal mobs north of Bloodvenom Falls in Felwood.
- 1x
Shimmering Grave Dust: After killing Princess Theradras in Maraudon loot Grave Mound on the Centaur grave.
Note: The Grave Mound can’t be looted in a raid group. In that case, leave the raid group, log out, log back in, and loot it. - 1x
Triple-Brewed Molten Lager: Sold by the Grim Guzzler vendor Plugger Spazzring in Blackrock Depths for 2g 50s.
- 1x
Symbol of Faith: Brave Stonetorch at 67 14 in Southshore in Hillsbrad Foothills.
- 3x
- Return to Gregory and turn in the quest.
- Go to Aeonas the Vindicated and accept the quest
The Ritual.
- Talk to Gregory again and let him do the ritual.
- Turn in the quest at Aeonas the Vindicated and you’ll get the rune.
After that you can accept the quest The Price of Hope that leads you back to Katherine the Pure in Stormwind and rewards you with
Whisper.
How to Get Purifying Power in SoD
You get the Purifying Power rune (Wrists) in the Season of Discovery as follows:
Note: The classes Warlock,
Priest, and
Mage also get one of their runes this way. You can do the following steps in a raid group.
- Collect 4x
Worldcore Fragment by using one of the following methods:
- Use
Scroll of Spatial Mending on Fel Portals (the scroll can e.g. be bought in the Auction House).
- Buy
Worldcore Fragment in the Auction House as it is no longer soulbound.
- Alternatively, a
Mage in your group can use

How to Get Improved Sanctuary in SoD
You get the Improved Sanctuary rune (Head) in the Season of Discovery as follows:
Note: This quest chain is the same for all classes.
- Accept the quest
The Wild Gods from Shadowtooth Emissary in the Emerald Sanctuary in Felwood (51.6 82.0). Note: The quest requires level 40 and is not sharable.
- [Only needs to be completed by one player in the group] Kill elites in Jintha’alor in The Hinterlands until you get
Wildwhisper Draught.
- Kill the final boss in Razorfen Downs and clear the area.
- Use
Wildwhisper Draught on the small ledge. This will cause the Spirit of Agamaggan to spawn.
- Turn in the quest at the Spirit of Agamaggan. You will get
Agamaggan's Roar and the follow-up quest
The Wild Gods.
- Collect 3
Wild Offering in Zul’Farrak, Maraudon, or Blackrock Depths. You can go to the same dungeon multiple times (e.g. 3x Zul’Farrak). Everyone in the group can loot the items regardless of whether having the quest or not. However, to get the rune, you will need to accept the quest sooner or later.
- Zul’Farrak:
- Kill 2-3 bosses (may depend on the boss combination) to spawn a spider ghost.
- The chat emote “You feel a shadowed presence” indicates that you did it correctly.
- The spider patrols around and south of Gahz'rilla.
- Use
Agamaggan's Roar near the spider ghost. This will cause the level 52 elite Delirious Ancient to spawn.
- Kill the mob and loot
Wild Offering.
- Kill 2-3 bosses (may depend on the boss combination) to spawn a spider ghost.
- Maraudon:
- Kill Princess Theradras to spawn a raptor ghost in the water on the upper level.
The chat emote “You feel a shadowed presence” indicates that you did it correctly. - Use
Agamaggan's Roar near the raptor ghost. This will cause the level 52 elite Delirious Ancient to spawn.
- Kill the mob and loot

You get the Shield of Righteousness rune (Back) in Eastern Plaguelands the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Kill Slack-Jawed Ghoul in Eastern Plaguelands patrolling around Darrowshire in the south. This will cause Orthas to spawn.
- Accept the quest
Oi! from Orthas.
- Go to Corrin’s Crossing in the south of Eastern Plaguelands.
- Find
Ornate Warhammer on the second floor of the building on the west side at 61.4 69.5.
- Summon Orthas, turn in the quest, and accept the quest
Oh No Ye Don't!.
- Kill Stitched Horror at Corrin’s Crossing or south of Stratholm or Abomination until you get the
Partially-Digested Plate Armor.
- Summon Orthas, turn in the quest, and accept the quest
A Wee Bit O' Necromancy.
- Go into Stratholme (Undead) and kill Maleki the Pallid.
- Loot a
Necrotic Runestone from Maleki the Pallid.
- Bring
Necrotic Runestone to Rotting Dwarf Corpse at 27.6 85.4 the Undercroft in the southeast of Eastern Plaguelands.
- Accept the quest

How to Get Righteous Vengeance in SoD
You get the Righteous Vengeance rune (Back) in Western Plaguelands in the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Talk to Fallen Knight at 44.6 46.6 in Western Plaguelands.
- Talk to Squire Cuthbert at 47.8 50.4 in the back left corner of the barn and accept the quest
In a Bind.
- Find
Squire Cuthbert's Blade at 45.7 53.9 in the field and bring it to Squire Cuthbert.
- Turn in the quest and accept the quest
Clearing the Path.
- Kill the following Undead mobs north of the Ruins of Andorhal around 47 51:
- 5x Blighted Zombie
- 10x Skeletal Terror
- 10x Rotting Cadaver
- Turn in the quest and accept the quest
The Fallen Knight.
- Escort Squire Cuthbert to the Fallen Knight‘s body.
- Interact with the Fallen Knight and choose the dialogue option to burn him.
- Turn in the quest at Squire Cuthbert in the barn at 47.8 50.4 and you’ll get the rune.
Note: After finishing Righteous Vengeance, you’ll get the quest
Dalton's Quest from Squire Cuthbert. This quest chain will reward you with the
